Hi there,
Are you thinking about How Much Food Should A French Bulldog Eat? In today’s blog, I hope you will get a proper idea of it, so let’s begin.
Like other dog dietary needs, French Bulldog dietary needs depend on their age, weight, activity, and their health status.
However, we will divide it into three sections: puppies, adults, and old bulldogs.
If you ask anyone directly, they will tell you that 1 to 2.5 cups of food should a French Bulldog need. Today, we will try to elaborate on it.
We would like to share the quantity with the weight of a Frenchie.
For Puppies:
An average French puppy weighs 8 to 28 pounds. At 8 weeks, they weigh approximately 8 pounds, and at 12 months, they reach a weight of about 25 to 28 pounds.
A French Bulldog puppy at 6 months old may weigh between 10 to 20 pounds. Let’s take a number: if the puppy weighs 10 pounds, they would need 250-350 calories per day.
What about 15 pounds?
For a 15-pound Frenchie, 400-600 calories per day are needed. If they weigh 20 pounds, we need to feed them 500-700 calories per day. For 20 pounds, 625-875 calories per day.
High-quality puppy foods usually provide about 300-500 calories per cup. If your Frenchie is very active, you could go for 20-30% more calories.
You could calculate that with this math:
Daily caloric needs / Calories per cup = Cups per day
625 / 275 ≈ 2.27
For puppies, we need to feed them around 2 to 3 times per day. I hope you get the idea.
For Adults:
Let’s do another calculation. An adult bulldog’s age range is 1-10 years. The idea is the adult’s weight is multiplied by calories per pound.
Let’s take an example: if our French Bulldog weighs about 2 pounds and the calorie intake is 2 calories/pound, then the math will be:
Weight (pounds) * Calories/pound = Calories/Day
2 pounds (weight) * 2 calories/pound = 4 calories/Day
Matching with this weight math, let’s get an idea with age:
- For 1.2-year-old adults: 25 calories/pound, 30 for highly active dogs (for highly active dogs, it will increase by 3 calories).
- For 2-year-old adults: 20-30 calories/pound.
- For 3-year-old adults: 20-30 calories/pound.
- For 4-year-old adults: 20-30 calories/pound.
- For 5-year-old adults: 20-25 calories/pound.
- For 6-year-old adults: 18-22 calories/pound.
- For 7-year-old adults: 18-20 calories/pound.
- For 8-year-old adults: 18-20 calories/pound.
- For 9-year-old adults: 16-18 calories/pound.
- For 10-year-old adults: 16-18 calories/pound.
For Old Bulldogs:
- For 11-year-old adults: 15-17 calories/pound.
- For 12-year-old adults: 14-16 calories/pound.
- For 13-year-old adults: 13-15 calories/pound.
- For 14-year-old adults: 12-14 calories/pound.
- For 15-year-old adults: 10-12 calories/pound.
If you’ve read this far, I hope you have an idea of the quantity. Now, I would like to say something about how often you should feed.
It’s quite normal that if you have puppies, you could feed them 3 times in 24 hours. I mean, within an 8-hour time period, you could give them a meal.
This makes 3 meals/day. However, for adults and older dogs, you could give them 2 meals per day, which is 2 meals in 24 hours. Or, you could even give them both meals at once.
If you would like to know more about actual French bulldog food which is best you can read this page:
Conclusion:
The last thing I would like to say is that I am not a veterinarian.
You will get an idea with this, but if you would like proper feeding guidelines, I would recommend a veterinarian. Because they are not just pets; they are life. Thanks for reading this complicated blog.
I tried to make it as simple as possible, but I hope you got a little bit of help.
Thanks.
